La Cenfotec University, is a higher education institution focused on Information Technology (IT) careers. In recent years it has implemented a new recognition system for its students through digital credentials.

This system, developed in conjunction with Acreditta, allows the university to grant recognition to its students in an agile, secure and verifiable way: “As a University focused on IT careers, we started with research to find a more agile and, above all, secure way. , to provide recognition to our students and that could be verifiable by any person or company,” explains Viviana Brenes Campos, Director of Academic Registry at the University.
“This is how, at the end of 2019, we began negotiations with Acreditta and in April 2020 we took the step with our first digital badges, complementing them from October 2022 with their respective digital certificate“Adds Brenes.
Digital badges are a digital representation of an achievement or competency acquired by a student. They can be issued by a variety of organizations, including universities, businesses, and nonprofit organizations. Digital certificates are electronic documents that can be securely verified. In the academic and professional context they serve to recognize achievements and learning. However, it is necessary to understand that both badges and certificates are types of digital credentials.
Results
The implementation of digital credentials by the Cenfotec University has had great acceptance by its students: “To date, the acceptance has been excellent, not only by the students, but also by those companies for their hiring processes and different educational institutions that require validate in a timely and reliable manner, the knowledge, skills and careers that our graduates and students indicate in their CVs,” said Brenes.
He also highlighted that this recognition system helps the university to improve and make visible the capabilities of its students: “We continue to grow as a Technological University and these processes help us improve and make visible the capabilities of our students,” says Brenes. “By having an ally like Acreditta, there is support to optimize the delivery of these recognitions and our international expansion.”
