Stackable badges or Microcredentials: what are they and why are they important?

June 13, 2023

While conventional digital badges work individually, stackable badges or microcredentials are recognitions that, when grouped together, represent a greater achievement for those who receive them. This type of badge seeks to obtain achievements and knowledge, step by step or randomly, so that those accredited can build their professional profile and acquire greater skills that they can share on social networks such as LinkedIn, Facebook or Twitter. At Acreditta we have two types of stackable badges: linear and free.

Linear Stackable Badges

These types of badges must be earned in a specific order for the Master Badge to be awarded. For example: an Advanced English program composed of levels A1, A2, B1, B2 and C1. In this case the person must first complete level A1 and when they do so they will be awarded a Badge that certifies said level. You will then have to complete them all in order up to C1 and when you do you will earn the Advanced English Master Badge.

Free Stackable Badges

On the other hand, free stackable badges are intended for programs that can be completed randomly. For example: a Digital Marketing course made up of SEO, Email Marketing, Social Media and Copywriting modules, which does not require a step by step. In this case the person can start with the module they want and freely finish the others. Each module will earn you a Badge. However, only when all are completed will the Digital Marketing Master Badge be earned.

How to create a badge collection?

When you are setting up your Stackable Badges in your admin profile you will have the ability to select whether you want them to be sorted in steps or randomly. One of the benefits of stackable badges is that it motivates those accredited to not stop learning, they are also supported, recognized and valued by a Master Badge that represents the effort and dedication that was used to obtain this final achievement and counts towards at the same time a learning story that generates more value when added to your resume and professional profile.
