Brightspace D2L

Acreditta integrates with Brightspace D2L through LTI Advantage. On the Brightspace side you need two separate registrations before configuring the tool in Acreditta: the LTI Advantage registration (for launching the tool) and an OAuth 2.0 application (so Acreditta can call your Brightspace API).

1. Register the LTI Advantage tool in Brightspace

  1. As an administrator, go to the gear icon (Admin Tools) and open External Learning Tools.
  2. On the LTI Advantage tab, click Register Tool.

  1. Fill in:
Field in Brightspace Value
Domain https://lti.acreditta.com/lti
Redirect URLs https://lti.acreditta.com/lti
OpenID Connect Login URL https://lti.acreditta.com/lti/login
Keyset URL https://lti.acreditta.com/lti/keys
Extensions Enable Assignment and Grade Services and Names and Role Provisioning Services. Platform Notification Service is optional but recommended.
Roles → Send Institution Role Enable it.

  1. Save. Brightspace assigns a Client ID for this registration — you’ll need it in Acreditta. The extensions and Client ID stay visible in the registration details:

  1. Go to the LTI Advantage → Deployments tab and create a New Deployment for the registration you just created, in the Org Unit(s) where you want to use Acreditta.

2. Register the OAuth 2.0 application

This is a separate registration from the previous one — don’t confuse it with the LTI tool. This is what gives Acreditta access to your Brightspace API (for example, to read grades and course progress).

  1. In the same External Learning Tools section, go to the OAuth 2.0 tab.
  2. Click Register an app.
  3. Save the Client ID and the Client Secret Brightspace generates for you — you’ll need them in the next step.

3. Configure the external tool in Acreditta

  1. Go to Integrations → External Tools.
  2. Click Add.
  3. In the Lms selector, choose D2L Brightspace.

You’ll see these fields:

Field Where it comes from
Name The name you want to give this Brightspace instance inside Acreditta.
LMS URL Your Brightspace instance’s base URL.
Client ID The Client ID Brightspace assigned when registering the LTI Advantage tool (step 1).
Token URL https://your-brightspace/d2l/lti/certs — confirm the exact token exchange URL in your instance’s configuration.
Login URL The same OpenID Connect Login URL you registered in step 1 (https://lti.acreditta.com/lti/login).
Keyset URL The same Keyset URL from step 1 (https://lti.acreditta.com/lti/keys).
App Client id / App Client secret The Client ID and Client Secret of the OAuth 2.0 application you registered in step 2 — these are not the same values as the LTI Advantage Client ID.

You’ll also see the Send notification checkbox, just like in Moodle and Canvas: enable it so Acreditta emails each earner when they receive their credential from this course.

  1. Click Save.

🔎 Note: these are two different credentials on the Brightspace side (LTI Advantage and OAuth 2.0) that end up split across a single form on the Acreditta side. If something isn’t connecting, first check you haven’t mixed up the Client ID from one registration with the other’s.

Add Acreditta to a course

Once the tool is deployed, add it as an external link inside the course (or a content module) pointing to the Deployment you created in step 1. When you open it, you’ll see the same Recognition templates screen as in Moodle and Canvas — it’s the same Acreditta tool, only how you embed it in each LMS changes.
