Canvas

Integrating Acreditta with Canvas lets you automatically issue digital credentials when a student completes a course, and gives instructors a way to issue them in bulk without depending on another system.

The integration consists of four parts:

  1. Create the Developer Key in Canvas — the key Canvas needs to trust Acreditta’s external tool.
  2. External tool configuration in Acreditta — see External tool configuration.
  3. Add the app to the course in Canvas — you install the configured tool as an external course app, from Settings → Apps → + App.
  4. Add Acreditta to a course — associate a credential template and its issuance rules with the course, and use field mapping and bulk issuance to automate delivery.

1. Create the Developer Key in Canvas

  1. As an administrator, go to Admin → Developer Keys.
  2. Click + Developer Key → + LTI Key.
  3. Under Method, choose Manual Entry and fill in:
Field in Canvas Value
Title / Description Any name you prefer to identify the tool (for example, “Acreditta LTI Tool”).
Target Link URI https://lti.acreditta.com/lti
OpenID Connect Initiation Url https://lti.acreditta.com/lti/login
JWK Method Public JWK URL
Public JWK URL https://lti.acreditta.com/lti/keys
Redirect URIs https://lti.acreditta.com/lti

  1. Under LTI Advantage Services, enable at least the grades and submissions permissions (gradebook/assignment data) and user data — Acreditta needs these to evaluate issuance rules based on grades or course completion.
  2. Under Placements, add Account Navigation (or Course Navigation, depending on where you want the tool to appear) and save.
  3. Copy the Client ID Canvas assigns you — you’ll need it in the next step.

🔎 Note: Canvas only generates the Client ID after you save the key; you won’t see it before that.
