External tool configuration (Canvas)

Once you have the Developer Key created on the Canvas side, configure the external tool from Acreditta.

1. Add the external tool

  1. Go to Integrations → External Tools.
  2. Click Add.
  3. In the Lms selector, choose Canvas.

You’ll see these fields:

Field Where it comes from
Name The name you want to give this Canvas instance inside Acreditta.
LMS URL Your Canvas instance’s base URL.
Issuer Url The “Issuer” Canvas exposes for LTI 1.3 (a configuration value from your Canvas).
Client ID The Client ID Canvas assigned you when creating the Developer Key.
Token URL Your Canvas’s LTI token exchange URL.
Login URL Your Canvas’s LTI (OIDC) login URL.
Keyset URL Your Canvas’s public keyset (JWKS) URL.
LTI Token LTI authentication token, if your Canvas configuration requires it.

You’ll also see the Send notification checkbox: enable it if you want Acreditta to email each earner notifying them of their digital credential as soon as it’s issued from this course.

  1. Click Save.

🔎 Note: this form no longer asks for a separate API user and key (unlike what the older guides described) — all connection data is standard LTI 1.3 and comes from Canvas’s Developer Key. Moodle and Brightspace use the same field scheme, with minor variations.
