How Acreditta works in Moodle

With the external tool already configured in Moodle, this section covers the steps to include Acreditta credentials in each course and how instructors can issue them or students claim them.

1. Add a credential to a course

  • Go into the course you created in Moodle.
  • Select Activity or resource.
  • Click External tool.

❔ If the option doesn’t show up in the resource list, go to More and then LTI External tools, and enable the option to show it in the resource list:

  • In the Activity name field, give the tool a name.
  • Select the external tool preconfigured in the previous step.
  • Click Save and return to course.

  • Click the external tool you just created.
  • On the new screen that appears, click Add credential.

In the search box that appears, choose the credential you want to add and click Add to course.

Once the credential is added, its associated rules will be shown. If a rule is optional, the instructor will be able to edit or remove it. You can also add additional rules if you need to.

After adding the credential, click Back. You’ll see a list with all the credentials associated with the course. From there you can issue credentials, configure them, or edit them as needed.

With the external tool configured, you can make additional adjustments to the course. If you want the credential to be issued upon completing a specific course activity, follow this configuration:

  • Click the More tab and select Course completion.
  • On the new screen, click Condition: Activity completion.
  • Select the activity you want and click Save changes.

2. Instructor view

During the course, the instructor can go into the course module and trigger credential generation or issuance for students who already meet the configured rules and are eligible to receive them. To issue credentials, click Issue credentials (green button inside the options section). The second icon lets you configure or edit the rules, and the third lets you delete the credential.

3. Student view

To get started, log in to Moodle and go into the corresponding course. Once inside, go to the course’s External tool section. There you’ll find a space where you can see the credentials you’ve earned in the course that instructors have issued recognizing your achievements and participation. You’ll also be able to claim credentials that the instructor hasn’t issued yet, letting you manage your own certificates and recognitions.
